November 6 Hickory Nut Gorge

Join mountains staff and volunteers for a day of chemically treating a stand of Hemlock trees on one of our preserves. These hemlocks are in danger because of a large infestation of the non-native woolly adelgid.

This is a great opportunity to learn how to treat hemlocks for this pest! No experience is necessary. The work intensity will be moderate.

What to wear: Hiking boots or sturdy shoes with ankle support are strongly recommended. Long sleeved shirts and pants are required for those applying chemicals; long pants are encouraged for all.

What to bring: A bad lunch, drinking water, rain gear, work gloves if you have them. We will provide nitrile gloves for those applying chemicals and hand sanitizer for washing hands prior to eating. Please have all personal supplies in a backpack or similar bag so your hands will be free to carry supplies to the site.

If you are interested, please email Mtns_volunteers@tnc.org or call the office at (828) 350-1431. Time to be announced. Reservations are required.
