Wild Alaska! Aleutians, Pribilofs, St. Lawrence, Katmai, Bering Sea

Tufted Puffins

Date:
July 6-20, 2009

Overview:
The Conservancy, in partnership with Zegrahm Expeditions and aboard the Clipper Odyssey, will take you on a itinerary rich with the habitats of the north Pacific marine and wildlife - rivers, fjords, spectacular bays and remote coves.

You'll embark on your Wild Alaska adventure from Seward, Alaska then travel to Kodiak Island and Katmai National Park and Preserve over the next couple of days. Guests will venture further to the Semidi Islands, home to millions of seabirds. On to Dutch Harbor / Unalaska to the Pribilof Islands to St. Lawrence Island and to Russia's Cape Dezhnev and the Chukchi Peninsula -- you'll have traveled most of the Bering Sea!

Along the way, wildlife viewing opportunities abound: walrus, whales, fur seals, and tons of seabirds including red-legged kittiwakes, parakeet auklets, murres, and puffins and much more.

Part of the team:
Stephen Ahgeak MacLean, The Nature Conservancy in Alaska's Bering Sea Program Director will join the trip. Born in Barrow, Alaska, Steve has spent much of his time in rural communities and has worked with Native people. His job allows him to explore and implement conservation strategies for Bering Sea and Aleutian Island habitats. Steve has a B.S. degree in biology from Whitman College and a M.S. degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A & M University.
