The Nature Conservancy celebrated with members, partners and friends at a special anniversary event, where the Municipality of Anchorage proclaimed October 5 - 11, 2008 "Conservation Week."                                             

Imamsuat "People of the Sea" Joined the Conservancy in Celebrating 20 YearsProvided by Mary H.

Imamsuat is a multi-generational group of Sugpiaq (Alutiiq) people from the Alaska and Lower Kenai Peninsulas, Kodiak & Afognak Islands, and Prince William Sound. Members of the group are also from the Inupiaq culture of the Bering Sea. The group shared their Sugpiat culture through dance and song at the Conservancy's 20th anniversary event.

Water Resources, Salmon Conservation: Lead Topics at Mat-Su Symposium

Jeff's salmon imageWater quality and healthy salmon will be top themes discussed at the 2008 Mat-Su Basin Salmon Science & Restoration Symposium, October 15-16, 2008 in Wasilla, Alaska. The symposium, hosted by the Mat-Su Basin Salmon Habitat Partnership and Alaska District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, addresses fish, wildlife, and water quality topics that are important to residents.

 

Spotlight

Wild salmon get noticed in the Mat-Su! The Conservancy celebrated with partners and friends at the 3rd Annual Wild Salmon Celebration this fall.

Water quality, resources and salmon are also the lead topics at an upcoming Mat-Su Basin Symposium.

Nature in the News!

The Nature Conservancy and its partners successfully wrapped up field operations on Rat Island in the Aleutians as part of one of the most ambitious seabird restoration efforts in the world. Partners have also launched a media website, including frequent field updates.

The Nature Conservancy announces the purchase of high-value salmon habitat on the Chuitna River in the Cook Inlet Basin.
