How We Work

The Nature Conservancy is using several innovative methods to aid conservation in Panama.

  • It has helped institute two debt-for-nature swaps that provide financial sustainability for long term conservation in Panama. The first swap went towards the Chagres watershed and the second one went towards conservation of the Darien National Park.
  • The Conservancy has helped influence government decisions on infrastructure projects by providing sound research and advice.
  • The Conservancy has helped create networks of indigenous communities in La Amistad National Park to help them develop alternative sustainable livelihoods.
